Week 2- Senses/Environment (myself)

Saturday 29th Jan 2022

After week 1 I had the writing bug! I loved just going somewhere with my notepad and just writing about something, getting inspiration from something and seeing what happened, see what I write.

I missed the second Writing Group so I decided to take myself somewhere and do some writing. I didn't know what I was going to write about but once I had decided the venue- Nobles Pub (I love this pub. But I went in the morning for a coffee. They are also known and busy for their brunch) I headed off to get a coffee at Nobles. Once I was there I decided I wanted to mostly write about the sounds and environment around me. - I knew that The Senses was going to be the theme for a future session and possibly I had that in my mind. But when I arrived in the pub I felt there was so much for my senses to experience and I could write about that. So I did...

Nobles Pub

The crunching, crushing , swirling sounds of the coffee beans grinding , being prepared for the next coffee. The swoosh of hot air, the clinking of the porcelain cups being picked up and put down, the porcelain clink against the metal ready for the dark liquid to pour. Tap,Tap - the gentle tap of teaspoons and cups on saucers from around the room. Bang. Bang. - The milk jug being bashed in the counter.

I can hear the gentle din of conversations from around the room, coming for all directions filling the room, meaning I am unable to define what sounds are coming from where or who in the room. Busy and bustling with energy and conversation, I am unable to make any clear words being shared, creating a background merge of sounds. Suddenly an eruption of laughter from one of the tables towards the back of the room.

The jazzy, middle eastern sounding music can be heard over the bustle adding to the sounds , and sound backdrop to my morning coffee.

The rich, hot smooth, caramel and bitter smells from the coffee fill my nose and the air. Along with the more subtle smell of breakfast food being served.

Footsteps and swooshing as staff move purposely around the tables, with a sense of urgency and determination. Never stopping.

Now the music track has changed. The beat of the music constant and powerful now dominates what I hear - 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac

"I can still hear you saying,

You would never break the chain...."

I gently sway to the music, hum and sing a little under my breath , not wanting anyone else to hear me. I love this song.
